As we are starting to be bombarded with election materials we thought it important to look at the claims being made by candidates standing in the Newton Abbot Constituency to see if we can verify or contradict as appropriate.
The Election Address from our Conservative Candidate, Anne Marie Morris explains how she had put the interests of her constituents first within parliament and continues to champion those key issues that affect us all.
The second we received is from Martin Wrigley Lib Dem Candidate
The literature circulated in an election address contains a number of questionable statements,
These include the results of past local elections including seats where the conservatives did not put up a candidate thus distorting the figures.
The latest local poll, the PCC elections in May had a Conservative vote of 45%, a Labour Vote of 35% and a Lib Dem vote of 25%.
He also claims that Teignbridge, under his leadership, started building new council homes for the first time in 30 years.
He does not say that of the new homes delivered over the last few years (and included in Teignbridge statistics) include the homes to provide refuge in Newton Abbot (A conservative initiative, and the homes in Dawlish for asylum seekers paid for by the conservative government.
Martin has delivered 7 homes in 5 years at a cost of almost double the cost of equivalent new homes in the area!
He also does not explain that it was a previous Lib Dem administration in 2010 that transferred ownership of all council-owned housing to registered providers because the council could not manage them. What has changed?
Claims that he will invest in local people and their skills to create good jobs and prosperity are also questionable given that Martin has also been in charge at Teignbridge with an annual budget of £ 2 million to provide jobs and employment and this has not been invested for the last 5 years and he has not brought forward any action plans to address the most deprived areas in Devon within Teignbridge.
