A major challenge facing local councils arises from the changing demands for local services and the escalating costs for councils in providing them.
In Teignbridge we have seen a withdrawal of banking services from smaller towns, a cutback in other services and recently a proposal to withdraw the mobile library services across Devon.
in response to these challenges, Cllr Stuart Rogers, post master at Ashburton, set out to put alternative plans together to ensure the smaller communities across Dartmoor had access to the vital services they needed.
He turned his local post office into a banking hub, fitted out a library, installed a lift for disabled people and went one stage further by converting a post office van into a mobile bank/post office and library book delivery service that commutes to villages across Dartmoor weekly.
The new service was launched by local MP Mel Stride on Friday 13th October.
